The ERP and CRM that the world knows and loves started back in 2005 with Fabien Pinckaers who wanted to become a direct competitor to SAP, an enterprise software company that dominated the market at the time. Throughout the development process, the name was then changed to OpenERP. Then in 2010, Mr. Pinckaers received a three-million euro investment from the Sofinnova partners together with Iliad's co-founder, Xavier Niel. The funding was then used to hire employees and open their first office in the United States. From there, OpenERP grew in size to over 100 employees. Over the next four years, OpenERP developed into an excellent Enterprise software platform used around the world by millions of people. At this point, the name was changed to Odoo.
