Installing the Redis PHP extension will allow PHP to communicate with the Redis server. We assume that you already have PHP installed on your server.<\/p>\n<p>To install the Redis PHP extension execute the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install php-redis -y<\/pre>\n<p>To verify if the installation is successful, execute the command below:<\/p>\n<pre>php -m | grep redis<\/pre>\n<p>You should receive the following output:<\/p>\n<pre>root@host:~# php -m | grep redis\r\n<b>redis<\/b><\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-4-Connect-to-Redis-Server\"><\/span>Step 4. Connect to Redis Server<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To connect to the Redis server and check if the connection is ok use the command below:<\/p>\n<pre>redis-cli<\/pre>\n<p>You will notice that the cli will be different as described below:<\/p>\n<pre>root@host:~# redis-cli\r\n<b>127.0.0.1:6379<\/b><\/pre>\n<p>If you get the screen above about the localhost and port <b>6379<\/b>, then you will be sure that Redis is working properly<\/p>\n<p>Now to test the connectivity execute the <b>ping<\/b> command, and you should receive the <b>PONG<\/b> output as a result of a successful connection.<\/p>\n<pre>127.0.0.1:6379&gt; ping\r\n<b>PONG<\/b>\r\n<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-5-Secure-the-Redis-Server\"><\/span>Step 5. Secure the Redis Server<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Redis Server security feature is not enabled by default, and we need to enable it manually. Redus authentication on the server works with a given password that can be set in two different ways. We will explain both scenarios, and you can use any of them in the future.<\/p>\n<p><b>Option 1.<\/b> To set a password in the redis configuration file, open the file <b>\/etc\/redis\/redis.conf<\/b> and find the line that contains <b>requirepass<\/b> phrase. Uncomment it and set your password.<\/p>\n<pre># IMPORTANT NOTE: starting with Redis 6 \"requirepass\" is just a compatibility\r\n# layer on top of the new ACL system. The option effect will be just setting\r\n# the password for the default user. Clients will still authenticate using\r\n# AUTH  as usually, or more explicitly with AUTH default \r\n# if they follow the new protocol: both will work.\r\n#\r\n\r\nrequirepass <b>YOURSTRONGPASSWORDHERE<\/b><\/pre>\n<p>Save the file, close it and restart the Redis service.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo systemctl restart redis-server.service<\/pre>\n<p><b>Option 2.<\/b> To set the password via the Redis cli you will need to login to with <b>redis-cli<\/b> command as described in the step 4 and execute the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>CONFIG SET requirepass YOURSTRONGPASSWORDHERE<\/pre>\n<p>You should receive the <b>OK<\/b> message after a successful password set.<\/p>\n<pre>127.0.0.1:6379&gt; CONFIG SET requirepass YOURSTRONGPASSWORDHERE\r\nOK\r\n127.0.0.1:6379&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>No matter which way you choose to set the password, after successful setting, you can test the authentication with the command below:<\/p>\n<pre>127.0.0.1:6379&gt; ping\r\n(error) NOAUTH Authentication required.\r\n127.0.0.1:6379&gt; auth YOURSTRONGPASSWORDHERE\r\nOK\r\n127.0.0.1:6379&gt; ping\r\nPONG\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>In the example above, we tried to test the connection without authentication, which resulted in the <b>(error) NOAUTH Authentication required.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>After we authenticated with the <b>auth YOURSTRONGPASSWORDHERE<\/b> command pinging, the connection was successful.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations!
