We will be using our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/vps-hosting.html\">VPS SSD 2 Plan<\/a> for the purpose of this tutorial.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Ubuntu 16.04 VPS<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0PostgreSQL server<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Python version 3.5<\/li>\n<li>Apache web server<\/li>\n<li>SSH access with root privileges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2-Log-in-via-SSH-and-update-the-system\"><\/span>2. Log in via SSH and update the system<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Log in to your Ubuntu 16.04 VPS with SSH as a root user<\/p>\n<pre>ssh root@IP_Address -p Port_number<\/pre>\n<p>You can check whether you have the proper Ubuntu version installed on your server with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre># lsb_release -a<\/pre>\n<p>You should get this output:<\/p>\n<pre>Distributor ID: Ubuntu\r\nDescription:    Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS\r\nRelease:        16.04\r\nCodename:       xenial<\/pre>\n<p>Once you are logged in, run the following command to update all installed packages to the latest available version<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get update &amp;&amp; apt upgrade<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3-Install-PostgreSQL-server\"><\/span><strong>3. Install PostgreSQL server<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Odoo requires a PostgreSQL database to store its information, so we will have to install the PostgreSQL server. We will install a PostgreSQL server using the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get install postgresql<\/pre>\n<p>Once installed, start the PostgreSQL server and enable it to start at server boot.<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl start postgresql\r\nsystemctl enable postgresql<\/pre>\n<p>Follow this tutorial for detailed instructions on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/install-postgresql-with-phppgadmin-on-ubuntu\/\">how to install Postgre SQL on Ubuntu 16.04<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3-Add-repository-and-install-Odoo\"><\/span>3. Add repository and install Odoo<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Odoo is not available in the official Ubuntu 16.04 repository, so in order to install it, we will need to add the Odoo repository to the server. In order to do it, run the following commands<\/p>\n<pre>wget -O - https:\/\/nightly.odoo.com\/odoo.key | apt-key add -\r\necho \"deb http:\/\/nightly.odoo.com\/12.0\/nightly\/deb\/ .\/\" &gt;&gt; \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/odoo.list<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4-Install-Odoo-12-on-Ubuntu\"><\/span>4. Install Odoo 12 on Ubuntu<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Next, update the local package database<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get update<\/pre>\n<p>and install Odoo using the apt package manager<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get install odoo<\/pre>\n<p>This command will install Odoo, Python 3 and all necessary Python modules, create PostgreSQL user and start the Odoo instance. After the installation is completed, you can check the status of the Odoo service:<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl status odoo<\/pre>\n<p>Output:<\/p>\n<pre>\u25cf odoo.service - Odoo Open Source ERP and CRM\r\n   Loaded: loaded (\/lib\/systemd\/system\/odoo.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)\r\n   Active: active (running)\r\n Main PID: 7693 (odoo)\r\n   CGroup: \/system.slice\/odoo.service\r\n           \u2514\u25007693 \/usr\/bin\/python3 \/usr\/bin\/odoo --config \/etc\/odoo\/odoo.conf --logfile \/var\/log\/odoo\/odoo-server.log<\/pre>\n<p>After the installation is completed, edit Odoo\u2019s configuration file and set the master admin password.<\/p>\n<pre>nano \/etc\/odoo\/odoo.conf<\/pre>\n<p>Uncomment the \u2018admin_passwrd\u2019 line, and change the admin_password field with a strong password.<\/p>\n<pre>admin_passwd = STRONG_PASSWORD<\/pre>\n<p>To put these changes into effect, restart Odoo<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl restart odoo<\/pre>\n<p>At this point, you can open your favorite web browser and access your Odoo at http:\/\/your_IP_Address:8069<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28811\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Install-Odoo-12-Ubuntu-16.04.jpg\" alt=\"Install Odoo 12 Ubuntu 16.04\" width=\"450\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Install-Odoo-12-Ubuntu-16.04.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Install-Odoo-12-Ubuntu-16.04-142x150.jpg 142w, https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Install-Odoo-12-Ubuntu-16.04-284x300.jpg 284w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5-Apache-installation\"><\/span>5. You can do this with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>dpkg -l apache2<\/pre>\n<p>If Apache is not installed, you can do this by executing the following commands.<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get install apache2<\/pre>\n<p>After the installation is complete, you should enable Apache to start automatically upon server boot with:<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl enable apache2<\/pre>\n<p>You can also check the status of your Apache service with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl status apache2<\/pre>\n<p>Now that we are sure that Apache is installed and running on our server we can continue with the next step and set up an Odoo reverse proxy.<\/p>\n<p>To the next step, we will need to enable some additional proxy modules for Apache. To enable these modules, execute the following commands:<\/p>\n<pre>a2enmod proxy\r\na2enmod proxy_http<\/pre>\n<p>Once this is done, open a new configuration file using nano or your favorite text editor\u00a0 with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>nano \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/your_domain.conf<\/pre>\n<p>Add the following lines:<\/p>\n<pre>&lt;VirtualHost *:80&gt;\r\nServerName your_domain.com\r\nServerAlias www.your_domain.com\r\n\r\nProxyRequests Off\r\n&lt;Proxy *&gt;\r\nOrder deny,allow\r\nAllow from all\r\n&lt;\/Proxy&gt;\r\n\r\nProxyPass \/ http:\/\/your_domain.com:8069\/\r\nProxyPassReverse \/ http:\/\/your_domain.com:8069\/\r\n&lt;Location \/&gt;\r\nOrder allow,deny\r\nAllow from all\r\n&lt;\/Location&gt;\r\n&lt;\/VirtualHost&gt;\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>Enable \u201cyour_domain.conf\u201d configuration in Apache using:<\/p>\n<pre>ln -s \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/your_domain.conf \/etc\/apache2\/sites-enabled\/your_domain.conf<\/pre>\n<p>Remember to replace your \u2018your_domain.com\u2019 with your actual domain name. Save the changes and restart the Apache web server for the changes to take effect:<\/p>\n<pre>service apache2 restart<\/pre>\n<p>That\u2019s it.
