Additionally, replace \u2018root\u2019 with the username of the admin account if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before starting, you have to make sure that all CentOS packages installed on the server are up to date. You can do this by running the following commands:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">dnf update -y<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-2-install-java\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-2-Install-Java\"><\/span>Step 2: Install Java<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Apache Cassandra requires Java 8 to be installed in your system. You can install it by running the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">dnf install java-1.8.0-openjdk-devel -y<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>After installing Java 8, verify the installed version of Java with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">java -version<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>You should see the following output:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">openjdk version \"1.8.0_272\"\nOpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_272-b10)\nOpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.272-b10, mixed mode)\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-3-install-apache-cassandra\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-3-Install-Apache-Cassandra\"><\/span>Step 3: Install Apache Cassandra<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, Apache Cassandra is not available in the CentOS 8 default repo. So you will need to create a repo for that. You can create it with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">nano \/etc\/yum.repos.d\/cassandra.repo<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Add the following lines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[cassandra]<br>name=Apache Cassandra<br>baseurl=https:\/\/www.apache.org\/dist\/cassandra\/redhat\/311x\/<br>gpgcheck=1<br>repo_gpgcheck=1<br>gpgkey=https:\/\/www.apache.org\/dist\/cassandra\/KEYS<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Save and close the file then install the Apache Cassandra with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">dnf install cassandra -y<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-4-create-a-systemd-service-file-for-apache-cassandra\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-4-Create-a-Systemd-Service-File-For-Apache-Cassandra\"><\/span>Step 4: Create a Systemd Service File For Apache Cassandra<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, you will need to create a systemd service file to manage the Cassandra service. You can create it with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">nano \/etc\/systemd\/system\/cassandra.service<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Add the following lines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">[Unit]\nDescription=Apache Cassandra\nAfter=network.target\n\n[Service]\nPIDFile=\/var\/run\/cassandra\/cassandra.pid\nUser=cassandra\nGroup=cassandra\nExecStart=\/usr\/sbin\/cassandra -f -p \/var\/run\/cassandra\/cassandra.pid\nRestart=always\n\n[Install]\nWantedBy=multi-user.target\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Save and close the file then reload the systemd daemon with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">systemctl daemon-reload<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, start the Cassandra service and enable it to start at system reboot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">systemctl start cassandra\nsystemctl enable cassandra<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, verify the Apache Cassandra with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">nodetool status<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>If everything is fine, you should get the following output:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Datacenter: datacenter1\n=======================\nStatus=Up\/Down\n|\/ State=Normal\/Leaving\/Joining\/Moving\n--  Address    Load       Tokens       Owns (effective)  Host ID                               Rack\nUN  127.0.0.1  70.69 KiB  256          100.0%            560b5524-2293-4872-a2d5-03c9c1f62f94  rack1\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-5-connect-to-cassandra-with-cql\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-5-Connect-to-Cassandra-with-CQL\"><\/span>Step 5: Connect to Cassandra with CQL<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassandra Query Language (CQL) is a query language for the Apache Cassandra database. It is used for communicating with the Apache Cassandra database. You can use the cqlsh utility to interact with Cassandra through CQL. But, cqlsh requires Python 2 to be installed in your system. You can install it with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">dnf install python2\nalternatives --set python \/usr\/bin\/python2<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, run the following command to access the CQL:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">cqlsh<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Once connected, you should get the following output:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Connected to Test Cluster at 127.0.0.1:9042.\n [cqlsh 5.0.1 | Cassandra 3.11.9 | CQL spec 3.4.4 | Native protocol v4]\n Use HELP for help.\n cqlsh&gt; <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-6-rename-cassandra-cluster-name\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-6-Rename-Cassandra-Cluster-Name\"><\/span>Step 6: Rename Cassandra Cluster Name<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, the Cassandra cluster is set to &#8220;Test Cluster&#8221;.
