Before you start the installation, please make sure that you have Nginx, PHP-FPM and MySQL installed on your server. If not, follow our excellent tutorial about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/how-to-install-lemp-linux-nginx-mysql-php-stack-on-opensuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">installing LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MariaDB &amp; PHP) on openSUSE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2-LOG-IN-TO-YOUR-SERVER-VIA-SSH\"><\/span>2. LOG IN TO YOUR SERVER VIA SSH<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<pre># ssh root@server_ip<\/pre>\n<p>You can check whether you have the proper OS installed on your server with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>cat \/etc\/issue<\/pre>\n<p>You should get this output:<\/p>\n<pre>Welcome to openSUSE 13.1 \"Bottle\" - Kernel \\r (\\l).<\/pre>\n<p>The output you get may be different from this depending on the version of openSUSE you have.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3-UPDATE-THE-SYSTEM\"><\/span>3. UPDATE THE SYSTEM<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Make sure your server is fully up to date using:<\/p>\n<pre># zypper up<\/pre>\n<p>Also install wget and unzip because those commands will be needed later:<\/p>\n<pre># zypper install wget unzip<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4-INSTALL-WORDPRESS\"><\/span>4. INSTALL WORDPRESS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The document root that we will set for your WordPress website is \/var\/www\/html\/your_domain . Therefore, create and enter the directory:<\/p>\n<pre># mkdir -p \/var\/www\/html\/your_domain\r\n\r\n# cd \/var\/www\/html\/your_domain<\/pre>\n<p>Download the latest WP version:<\/p>\n<pre># wget https:\/\/wordpress.org\/latest.zip<\/pre>\n<p>Unzip the downloaded archive:<\/p>\n<pre># unzip latest.zip<\/pre>\n<p>The files will be extracted into a directory called wordpress, so you&#8217;ll need to move the files\/directories from inside to your current location (\/var\/www\/html\/your_domain). Use the below command:<\/p>\n<pre># mv wordpress\/* .<\/pre>\n<p>Delete the unnecessary directory and installation:<\/p>\n<pre># rmdir wordpress\/ &amp;&amp; rm latest.zip<\/pre>\n<p>Assign the proper files\/directories ownership so your Nginx web server can actually read the data:<\/p>\n<pre># chown nginx: -R \/var\/www\/html\/rosehostingtest.com\/<\/pre>\n<p>Your next step is to create a Nginx virtual host config file for the domain that you&#8217;ll use to host WordPress. Create a custom directory called <em><strong>conf.d<\/strong><\/em> where the Nginx conf file for your domain will reside.<\/p>\n<pre># mkdir \/etc\/nginx\/conf.d<\/pre>\n<p>Now open a file with your favorite text editor. We are naming the file &#8216;your_domain.conf&#8217; however feel free to replace it with your actual domain. Don&#8217;t forget to add .conf at the end of the filename.<\/p>\n<pre># nano \/etc\/nginx\/conf.d\/your_domain.conf<\/pre>\n<p>Paste the following:<\/p>\n<pre>server {\r\n    server_name your_domain;\r\n\r\n    access_log \/var\/log\/nginx\/your_domain-access.log;\r\n    error_log \/var\/log\/nginx\/your_domain-error.log;\r\n    root \/var\/www\/html\/your_domain;\r\n\r\n    location \/ {\r\n        index index.php;\r\n        try_files $uri $uri\/ \/index.php$is_args$args;\r\n    }\r\n\r\n    location ~ \\.php$ {\r\n        include \/etc\/nginx\/fastcgi_params;\r\n        fastcgi_pass   127.0.0.1:9000;\r\n        fastcgi_index index.php;\r\n        fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;\r\n    }\r\n}<\/pre>\n<p>Replace your_domain with your actual domain, save and close the file.<\/p>\n<p>Test if your config is correct:<\/p>\n<pre># nginx -t<\/pre>\n<p>If everything is OK, restart Nginx for the changes to take effect:<\/p>\n<pre># service nginx restart<\/pre>\n<p>Last but not least, create the much needed MySQL database. Log into MySQL as root and execute the below queries:<\/p>\n<pre># mysql -u root -p\r\n\r\nmysql&gt; create database wp;\r\nQuery OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)\r\n\r\nmysql&gt; grant all privileges on wp.* to wpuser@localhost identified by 'your_password';\r\nQuery OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)\r\n\r\nmysql&gt; flush privileges;\r\nQuery OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)\r\n\r\nmysql&gt; exit<\/pre>\n<p>With that taken care of the only thing you need to do is to update the wp-config.php file with the newly created database credentials. But first, copy the sample file into a new wp-config.php file.<\/p>\n<pre># cp wp-config-sample.php  wp-config.php<\/pre>\n<p>Open the file:<\/p>\n<pre># nano wp-config.php<\/pre>\n<p>After updating the database credentials, the lines should look like this:<\/p>\n<pre> \/\/ ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** \/\/\r\n\/** The name of the database for WordPress *\/\r\ndefine('DB_NAME', 'wp');\r\n\r\n\/** MySQL database username *\/\r\ndefine('DB_USER', 'wpuser');\r\n\r\n\/** MySQL database password *\/\r\ndefine('DB_PASSWORD', 'your_password');\r\n\r\n\/** MySQL hostname *\/\r\ndefine('DB_HOST', 'localhost');<\/pre>\n<p>Save and close the file.<\/p>\n<p>Now open your favorite web browser and navigate to http:\/\/your_domain.com to finish the WordPress installation.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations, you have successfully installed WordPress with Nginx on OpenSuse on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/wordpress-hosting.html\">Optimized WordPress Hosting<\/a>.
