it can easily be installed by using the apt-get package manager:<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get install apache2<\/pre>\n<p>After the installation is completed, you can then enable the Apache web server to start automatically upon server reboot:<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl enable apache2<\/pre>\n<p>You can verify if the Apache server is running by executing the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl status apache2<\/pre>\n<p>Or, you can check if the web server is successfully installed and running by navigating to <strong>http:\/\/your_server_IP<\/strong>\u00a0using your web browser of choice. If everything is OK your browser will load the default Apache webpage.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-3-Install-PHP-70\"><\/span>Step 3: Install PHP 7.0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To install PHP 7 and some PHP modules required by NextCloud, run the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get install php7.0 libapache2-mod-php7.0 php7.0-intl php7.0-gd php7.0-json php7.0-mysql php7.0-common php7.0-curl php7.0-mbstring php7.0-mcrypt php7.0-xml php-imagick php7.0-zip<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-4-Install-MySQL-and-Create-a-Database\"><\/span>Step 4: Install MySQL and Create a Database<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Next, we will install the MySQL server. To do this, simply run the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>apt-get install mysql-server<\/pre>\n<p>You can now start the database server and enable it to automatically start upon boot, with the following commands:<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl start mysql\r\nsystemctl enable mysql<\/pre>\n<p>You can also run the <strong>mysql_secure_installation<\/strong> script to harden the security of your MySQL database server:<\/p>\n<pre>mysql_secure_installation<\/pre>\n<p>After you have answered all of the questions, you can now go ahead and log in to MySQL as the root user by using the password we entered in the previous step:<\/p>\n<pre>mysql -u root -p<\/pre>\n<p>To create a new database for your NextCloud installation, run the following commands:<\/p>\n<pre>CREATE DATABASE nextcloud_db;\r\nGRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON nextcloud_db.* TO 'nextcloud_user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'PASSWORD';\r\nFLUSH PRIVILEGES;\r\nexit;<\/pre>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to replace \u2018PASSWORD\u2019 with an actual strong password.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-5-Install-NextCloud-14\"><\/span>Step 5: Install NextCloud 14<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Our hosting environment is ready, and additionally, we have created a new database. We can now proceed with the actual installation of NextCloud.<\/p>\n<p>Run the following commands to download and extract the latest NextCloud 14 installation files:<\/p>\n<pre>cd \/var\/www\r\nwget https:\/\/download.nextcloud.com\/server\/releases\/latest-14.zip\r\nunzip latest-14.zip\r\nchown -R www-data:www-data nextcloud\r\nrm latest-14.zip<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-6-Create-the-Apache-Virtual-Host-File\"><\/span>Step 6: Create the Apache Virtual Host File<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you want to be able to access NextCloud with a domain name, you will have to create a new virtual host. You can do this with the nano text editor:<\/p>\n<pre>nano \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/nextcloud.conf<\/pre>\n<p>Now enter the following information into the file:<\/p>\n<pre>&lt;VirtualHost *:80&gt;\r\nServerAdmin admin@your-domain.com\r\nDocumentRoot \/var\/www\/nextcloud\r\nServerName your-domain.com\r\nServerAlias www.your-domain.com\r\n\r\nAlias \/nextcloud \"\/var\/www\/nextcloud\/\"\r\n&lt;Directory \/var\/www\/nextcloud\/&gt;\r\n Options +FollowSymlinks\r\n AllowOverride All\r\n\r\n&lt;IfModule mod_dav.c&gt;\r\n Dav off\r\n&lt;\/IfModule&gt;\r\n\r\nSetEnv HOME \/var\/www\/nextcloud\r\n SetEnv HTTP_HOME \/var\/www\/nextcloud\r\n&lt;\/Directory&gt;\r\n\r\nErrorLog \/var\/log\/apache2\/nextcloud-error_log\r\nCustomLog \/var\/log\/apache2\/nextcloud-access_log common\r\n&lt;\/VirtualHost&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>Then we need to enable the virtual host file with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>ln -s \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/nextcloud.conf \/etc\/apache2\/sites-enabled\/nextcloud.conf<\/pre>\n<p>Also, we need to make sure that the following apache mods are also enabled:<\/p>\n<pre>a2enmod rewrite headers env dir mime<\/pre>\n<p>Finally, restart the Apache web server:<\/p>\n<pre>systemctl restart apache2<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-7-Complete-the-NextCloud-Installation-via-Web-Browser\"><\/span>Step 7: Complete the NextCloud Installation via Web Browser<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can now go to your <strong>http:\/\/your-domain.com<\/strong> (or <strong>http:\/\/YOUR_IP_ADDRESS<\/strong>) and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the NextCloud installation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28519\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/install-nextcloud-14-on-ubuntu-16.04.jpg\" alt=\"install nextcloud 14 on ubuntu 16.04\" width=\"600\" height=\"544\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/install-nextcloud-14-on-ubuntu-16.04.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/install-nextcloud-14-on-ubuntu-16.04-150x136.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/install-nextcloud-14-on-ubuntu-16.04-300x272.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will need to create your admin user account by choosing your own username and password. Under the \u201cStorage &amp; Database\u201d section, enter the information of the database we have previously created and then click on \u201cFinish Setup\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it.
