Update the Server OS Packages<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, log in to your Debian 10 server via SSH as the root user:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">ssh root@IP_Address -p Port_number<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you login, update your system packages with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">apt-get update -y<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-2-install-sensu-backend\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-2-Install-Sensu-Backend\"><\/span>Step 2: Install Sensu Backend<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before starting, you will need to install some dependencies to your system. Run the following command to install all the required dependencies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">apt-get install curl gnupg unzip wget -y<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>After the installation, you will need to install Sensu backend repository to your system. You can install it using the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">curl -s https:\/\/packagecloud.io\/install\/repositories\/sensu\/stable\/script.deb.sh | bash<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the repository is installed, update the repository and install the Sensu backend with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">apt-get update -y\napt-get install sensu-go-backend -y<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Once installed, you will also need to download the Sensu sample configuration file to the \/etc\/ sensu directory. You can download it using the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">curl -L https:\/\/docs.sensu.io.\/sensu-go\/latest\/files\/backend.yml -o \/etc\/sensu\/backend.yml<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, start the Sensu backend service and enable it to start at system reboot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">systemctl start sensu-backend\nsystemctl enable sensu-backend<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also verify the status of the Sensu service using the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">systemctl status sensu-backend<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>You should see the following output:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">\u25cf sensu-backend.service - The Sensu Backend service.\n     Loaded: loaded (\/lib\/systemd\/system\/sensu-backend.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)\n     Active: active (running) since Tue 2021-04-06 05:37:09 UTC; 9s ago\n   Main PID: 2774 (sensu-backend)\n      Tasks: 10 (limit: 2353)\n     Memory: 16.8M\n     CGroup: \/system.slice\/sensu-backend.service\n             \u2514\u25002774 \/usr\/sbin\/sensu-backend start -c \/etc\/sensu\/backend.yml\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, Sensu backend is started and listening on port 3000. You can check it with the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">ss -antpl | grep 3000<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Output:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">LISTEN    0         4096                     *:3000                   *:*        users:((\"sensu-backend\",pid=2774,fd=18)) \n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-3-set-sensu-admin-password\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-3-Set-Sensu-Admin-Password\"><\/span>Step 3: Set Sensu Admin Password<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, you will need to generate an admin username and password to access the Sensu dashboard. You can generate it using the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sensu-backend init --interactive<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be asked to provide Sensu admin username and password as shown below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">? Cluster Admin Username: admin\n? Cluster Admin Password: *********\n? Authentication method: username\/password\n? Sensu Backend URL: http:\/\/127.0.0.1:8080\n? Namespace: default\n? Preferred output format: tabular\n? Username: admin\n?
