e107 is an open-source web application, written in PHP and using the popular open source MySQL database system for content storage. It is completely free and totally customizable. The e107 CMS provides all the features you need to build a basic website or a fully interactive web portal and it doesn’t require any knowledge of programming languages in order to use it to build a web site. It is fairly easy to install e107 CMS on an Ubuntu 14.04 VPS<\/a><\/strong>. The installation process should take about 5-10 minutes if you follow the very easy steps described below.<\/p>\n

\"biglogo\"<\/p>\n

At the time of writing this tutorial, e107 CMS 2.0 is the latest stable version available and it requires:<\/p>\n

– Apache web server;
\n– PHP (version 5.3 or higher) with GD graphics library;
\n– MySQL(version 5.1 or higher) installed on your Linux VPS<\/a>;<\/p>\n

INSTRUCTIONS:<\/h4>\n

Log in to your VPS via SSH<\/p>\n

ssh user@vps_IP<\/pre>\n
Update the system<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade<\/pre>\n
Install MariaDB 10.0<\/p>\n
To install MariaDB, run the following command:<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo apt-get install -y mariadb-server<\/pre>\n
Next, we need to create a database for our e107 CMS installation:<\/p>\n
[user]$ mysql -u root -p\r\n\r\nMariaDB [(none)]> CREATE DATABASE e107;\r\nMariaDB [(none)]> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON e107.* TO 'e107user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'your-password';\r\nMariaDB [(none)]> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;\r\nMariaDB [(none)]> \\q<\/pre>\n
Do not forget to replace \u2018your-password\u2019 with a strong password.<\/p>\n
Install Apache2 web server<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo apt-get install apache2<\/pre>\n
Install PHP and required PHP modules<\/p>\n
To install the latest stable version of PHP and all necessary modules, run:<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5 php5-mcrypt php5-mysql php5-gd<\/pre>\n
Download and extract the latest version of e107 CMS on your server<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo cd \/opt && wget wget http:\/\/downloads.sourceforge.net\/project\/e107\/e107\/e107%20v2.0\/e107_2.0_full.zip\r\n[user]$ mkdir e107\r\n[user]$ sudo unzip e107_2.0_full.zip -d e107\/\r\n[user]$ sudo mv e107\/ \/var\/www\/html\/e107\/<\/pre>\n
All files have to be readable by the web server, so we need to set the proper ownership:<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo chown www-data:www-data -R \/var\/www\/html\/e107<\/pre>\n
Create a new virtual host directive in Apache. For example, create a new Apache configuration file named \u2018e107.conf\u2019 on your virtual server:<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo touch \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/e107.conf\r\n[user]$ sudo ln -s \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/e107.conf \/etc\/apache2\/sites-enabled\/e107.conf\r\n[user]$ sudo nano \/etc\/apache2\/sites-available\/e107.conf<\/pre>\n
Then, add the following lines:<\/p>\n
<VirtualHost *:80>\r\nServerAdmin admin@yourdomain.com\r\nDocumentRoot \/var\/www\/html\/e107\/\r\nServerName your-domain.com\r\nServerAlias www.your-domain.com\r\n<Directory \/var\/www\/html\/e107\/>\r\nOptions FollowSymLinks\r\nAllowOverride All\r\nOrder allow,deny\r\nallow from all\r\n<\/Directory>\r\nErrorLog \/var\/log\/apache2\/your-domain.com-error_log\r\nCustomLog \/var\/log\/apache2\/your-domain.com-access_log common\r\n<\/VirtualHost>\r\n<\/pre>\n
Restart the Apache web server for the changes to take effect:<\/p>\n
[user]$ sudo service apache2 restart<\/pre>\n
Open your favorite web browser, navigate to http:\/\/your-domain.com\/ and if you configured everything correctly the e107 CMS installer should be starting. You should follow the easy instructions on the install screen inserting the necessary information as requested.<\/p>\n
That is it. The e107 CMS installation is now complete.<\/p>\n
For security reasons, it is recommended to set the \u2018\/var\/www\/html\/e107\/e107_config.php\u2019 file permissions to 644 once you are done with the installation process.<\/p>\n
