Install Redis on Ubuntu 16.04<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Installing Redis on an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/ubuntu-hosting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ubuntu VPS<\/a> is simple. Run the command below to install Redis on your machine:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo apt-get install redis-server<\/pre>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If you are planning on using Redis as an object cache for WordPress or any other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/php-hosting.html\">PHP<\/a>-based application, you need to install the following package too:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo apt-get install php-redis<\/pre>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-configure-redis-as-a-cache-on-ubuntu-16-04\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3-Configure-Redis-as-a-cache-on-Ubuntu-1604\"><\/span>3. Configure Redis as a cache on Ubuntu 16.04<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To configure Redis as a cache you need to edit the <code>\/etc\/redis\/redis.conf<\/code> file. We will use <code>nano<\/code> as a text editor for this purpose, but you can use any text editor of your choice.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo nano \/etc\/redis\/redis.conf<\/pre>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To configure the max memory for Redis as well as how Redis will select what to remove when the max memory is reached, add the following lines at the end of the file:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">maxmemory 128mb\r\nmaxmemory-policy allkeys-lru<\/pre>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In this example, Redis will remove any key according to the LRU algorithm when the max memory of 128mb is reached. Use Redis on Ubuntu 16.04<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To use Redis as an object cache for a PHP-based application like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/wordpress-hosting.html\">WordPress<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/magento-hosting.html\">Magento<\/a> you will need some additional configuration. For example, if you like to use Redis with WordPress you can simply install the <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/redis-cache\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Redis Object Cache<\/a> plugin and adjust the connection parameters.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Once the plugin is enabled and the connection is established you can use the Redis command line monitor to see the real-time output. To start the Redis command line monitor you can use the following command:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">redis-cli monitor<\/pre>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>At some point, you may need to purge the Redis cache.
