(optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-1-Connect-to-your-Server\"><\/span>Step 1: Connect to your Server<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To connect to your server via SSH as the root user, use the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ ssh root@<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">IP_ADDRESS<\/span> -p <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">PORT_NUMBER<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>and replace \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">IP_ADDRESS<\/span>\u201d and \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">PORT_NUMBER<\/span>\u201d with your actual server IP address and SSH port number.<\/p>\n<p>Once logged in, make sure that your server is up-to-date by running the following commands:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-get update\r\n$ apt-get upgrade<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-2-Install-MySQL\"><\/span>Step 2: Install MySQL<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Next, we need to install the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/mysql-hosting.html\">MySQL server<\/a>. Ubuntu 18.04 has the latest stable version of MySQL ready for installation through the pre-installed repositories.<\/p>\n<p>The following command will install the latest MySQL 5.7 server from the official Ubuntu repositories:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-get install mysql-server<\/pre>\n<p>The MySQL web server will be started automatically as soon as the installation is completed.<\/p>\n<p>You can also enable the MySQL service to automatically start up upon server reboot with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ systemctl enable mysql<\/pre>\n<p>Run the following command to further secure your installation:<\/p>\n<pre>$ mysql_secure_installation<\/pre>\n<p>This script will help you to perform important security tasks like setting up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosehosting.com\/blog\/how-to-change-root-password-in-linux\/\">root password<\/a>, disable remote root login, remove anonymous users, etc. If the script asks for the root password, just press the [Enter] key, as no root password is set by default.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-3-Create-a-Database-for-Redmine\"><\/span>Step 3: Create a Database for Redmine<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Next, we need to create a database for our Redmine installation. The current version in the Ubuntu repositories is 2.5.1 which is the latest stable version of Ruby at the time of writing this tutorial.<\/p>\n<p>Install Ruby with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-get install ruby-full<\/pre>\n<p>To verify everything is done correctly, use the command <code>ruby --version<\/code>.<br \/>\nThe output should be similar to the following:<\/p>\n<pre>$ ruby --version\r\nruby 2.5.1p57 (2018-03-29 revision 63029) [x86_64-linux-gnu]<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-5-Install-Nginx-and-Passenger\"><\/span>Step 5: Install Nginx and Passenger<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To install Nginx on your Ubuntu 18.04 server, you need to enter the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-get install nginx<\/pre>\n<p>Enable Nginx to start on boot and start the service using these two lines:<\/p>\n<pre>$ systemctl start nginx\r\n$ systemctl enable nginx<\/pre>\n<p>To install Passenger, an Nginx module, start by installing the necessary package prerequisites:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-get install dirmngr gnupg apt-transport-https ca-certificates<\/pre>\n<p>Import the repository GPG key and enable the &#8220;Phusionpassenger&#8221; repository:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver hkp:\/\/keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 561F9B9CAC40B2F7\r\n$ add-apt-repository 'deb https:\/\/oss-binaries.phusionpassenger.com\/apt\/passenger bionic main'<\/pre>\n<p>Once the repository is enabled, update the packages list and install the Passenger Nginx module with:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-get update\r\n$ apt-get install libnginx-mod-http-passenger<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-6-Download-and-Install-Redmine\"><\/span>Step 6: Download and Install Redmine<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We need to install the dependencies necessary to build Redmine:<\/p>\n<pre>$ apt-get install build-essential libmysqlclient-dev imagemagick libmagickwand-dev<\/pre>\n<p>Go to Redmine\u2019s official website and download the latest stable release of the application.
