It&#8217;s easy to do, and it won&#8217;t take more than a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>You can do this by running the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get update\r\nsudo apt-get upgrade<\/pre>\n<p>Once the updates are completed, we can move on to the next step.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-2-Install-Go\"><\/span><span id=\"2-Install-Redis-on-Ubuntu-1604\" class=\"ez-toc-section\">Step 2: Install Go<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>First, we will have to download the current binary archive file. Before downloading it, you should visit the official Go <a href=\"https:\/\/golang.org\/dl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download page<\/a> and check for the latest version.<\/p>\n<p>We will use the\u00a0<em>wget <\/em>command to download the latest stable version.<\/p>\n<pre>wget https:\/\/dl.google.com\/go\/go1.12.7.linux-amd64.tar.gz<\/pre>\n<p>To check the tarball checksum we will use the &#8216;<em>sha256sum<\/em>&#8216; command:<\/p>\n<pre>sha256sum go1.12.7.linux-amd64.tar.gz<\/pre>\n<p>The output should look similar to the following:<\/p>\n<pre>66d83bfb5a9ede000e33c6579a91a29e6b101829ad41fffb5c5bb6c900e109d9 go1.12.7.linux-amd64.tar.gz<\/pre>\n<p>You will have to make sure that the hash printed from the <em>sha256sum\u00a0<\/em>command matches the one from the Go download page.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we will extract the <em>tar<\/em> file to the <em>\/usr\/local<\/em> directory with the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo tar -C \/usr\/local -xzf go1.12.7.linux-amd64.tar.gz<\/pre>\n<p>Now, we should tell on our system where to find the Go executable binaries. This will allow you to actually run the commands in your terminal. In order to do that we need to set the <em>PATH<\/em> environment variable. We have to append the path to the <em>$HOME\/.profile<\/em> file for the current user.<\/p>\n<pre>nano $HOME\/.profile<\/pre>\n<p>And add the following path:<\/p>\n<pre>export PATH=$PATH:\/usr\/local\/go\/bin<\/pre>\n<p>We will save the file and load the new <em>PATH<\/em> variable into the current shell session by executing the following command.<\/p>\n<pre>source ~\/.profile<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step-3-Verifying-the-Go-installation\"><\/span><span id=\"2-Install-Redis-on-Ubuntu-1604\" class=\"ez-toc-section\">Step 3: Verifying the Go installation<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If everything is installed and set up correctly we should be able to execute the Go commands.<\/p>\n<p>To verify the Go version execute the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>go version<\/pre>\n<p>The output should be similar to the following:<\/p>\n<pre>go version go1.12.7 linux\/amd64<\/pre>\n<p>If you want to verify all of the configured environment variables you can use the following command:<\/p>\n<pre>go env<\/pre>\n<p>The output should be similar to the following:<\/p>\n<pre>GOARCH=\"amd64\"\r\nGOBIN=\"\"\r\nGOCACHE=\"\/root\/.cache\/go-build\"\r\nGOEXE=\"\"\r\nGOFLAGS=\"\"\r\nGOHOSTARCH=\"amd64\"\r\nGOHOSTOS=\"linux\"\r\nGOOS=\"linux\"\r\nGOPATH=\"\/root\/go\"\r\nGOPROXY=\"\"\r\nGORACE=\"\"\r\nGOROOT=\"\/usr\/local\/go\"\r\nGOTMPDIR=\"\"\r\nGOTOOLDIR=\"\/usr\/local\/go\/pkg\/tool\/linux_amd64\"\r\nGCCGO=\"gccgo\"\r\nCC=\"gcc\"\r\nCXX=\"g++\"\r\nCGO_ENABLED=\"1\"\r\nGOMOD=\"\"\r\nCGO_CFLAGS=\"-g -O2\"\r\nCGO_CPPFLAGS=\"\"\r\nCGO_CXXFLAGS=\"-g -O2\"\r\nCGO_FFLAGS=\"-g -O2\"\r\nCGO_LDFLAGS=\"-g -O2\"\r\nPKG_CONFIG=\"pkg-config\"\r\nGOGCCFLAGS=\"-fPIC -m64 -pthread -fmessage-length=0 -fdebug-prefix-map=\/tmp\/go-build959242624=\/tmp\/go-build -gno-record-gcc-switches\"<\/pre>\n<p>Go has been successfully installed and set up on the server.
